Dr. Saad Patents Revolutionary Medical Technology

Having performed thousand of pediatric surgical procedures over the course of his career, Dr. Saad Saad is accomplished in the field of pediatric surgery. Dr. Saad always sought out techniques to improve on existing procedures and methods while challenging the accepted to find methods of reducing both the risk to patients and the amount of pain they felt. This led him to develop several new procedures for pediatric surgery and have two inventions patented which he personally holds patents for.

Dr. Saad spent over four decades performing complex pediatric surgical procedures on patients inside and outside of the community. He performed complex pediatric surgery on under privilege children in the West Bank and Jerusalem during eight medical mission, and also did four medical mission in the United States.

(Patent No. 5,727,553) Integral Electromagnetic Location Identification Device on Catheter. Learn more: https://www.doximity.com/pub/saad-saad-md

Tubes serving a vast range of functions are known as medical catheters. These tubes are used for treating medical conditions or aid in the performance of surgical procedures by inserting them into the body. The tasks such as drainage of fluids and gases, or giving surgical instruments access will be determined by the catheter type. There are catheters that can be left in the body either permanently or temporarily.

Surgeons need the ability to tract the exact location of a catheter in the body in order to position it correctly inside of the body. Traditionally X-rays were used for this purpose. Repeat exposure to radiation is had with frequent X-rays though there is not significant risk associated with having a single x-ray taken. The catheter can also be tracked through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), but the machines are so large they are not portable meaning the option is not a feasible alternative.

This knowledge led Dr. Saad to create something to aid in the locating of catheters without need of performing medical scans on the body of a patient. Electromagnetic energy is used by the catheter that has the integral electromagnetic location identification device. There are wires in the wall of the catheter and the tip’s coil holds a material that is magnetically permeable. A device is used for external locating to send signals while scanning the outside of the body.
